Help To Make Getting In Shape Easier With This Advice

April 8, 2013

Staying fit requires two main things, a willingness to work and a willingness to stick with it. People go into a new fitness routine with a huge sense of enthusiasm and excitement, but as the time goes on the novelty wears off, and so does the workrate. Use these tips to keep you motivated.

Yoga

Work on your flexibility. Flexibility and stretching often fall by the wayside in our hurry to get through our cardio and strength training and get on with our days. To prevent injury, improve flexibility, and decrease soreness, take the time to stretch after your workout. Better yet, enroll in a yoga class to limber up even more.

A great way to maintain personal fitness is to practice yoga at least once per week. Yoga involves your entire body and can include fabulous stretching and strengthening exercises. This ancient art has many disciplines, some of which provide an incredible cardio workout. It also promotes mental fitness and focus while getting your body into shape.

Days off don’t mean that you should be a couch potato the whole day. Instead, do something more low-key; try going for a walk or doing a light yoga tape. Anything that gets your blood flowing a little bit gives you more energy overall, and most importantly, it will make the days you do more vigorous workouts more productive.

When performing a yoga pose, and especially for an extended period of time, it is crucial that you do a counter-pose in order to maintain a balanced form. If you have performed a strenuous backward bend such as King Pigeon Pose, then it would be ideal to follow up with something like Child’s Pose.

Yoga used to be an obscure activity, done only by those into new age experiences. But yoga has become so mainstream that it’s almost impossible now to find someone who hasn’t tried it. There are many types of yoga exercises, which focus on stretching and elongating muscles. There is yoga that focuses on relaxing, but also fitness yoga that gets your heart pumping.

As you get older, don’t forget the importance of a fitness regime. Fitness is extremely important to people in their later years, as it helps to maintain a strong, healthy body. Moderate cardio exercises will keep your heart healthy, and yoga is excellent for maintaining flexibility. Many athletic clubs offer exercise classes specially geared towards seniors.

Be careful not to overdo your fitness routines! Only do high impact fitness workouts on alternating days. In between, do weight work, yoga, swimming or cycling to give your bones and joints a break. Don’t work out every day. Give your body one day of rest during the week.

Keep yourself motivated by trying new activities and classes. Try taking on something you’ve never done before. Consider taking a boxing class or learning yoga. Maybe you’ve always wanted to ballroom dance. Give it a try, you can never have too many ways to keep your body moving and active.

Consistency, consistency, consistency! These are the hallmarks of ANY fitness routine. If you can maintain your plan you will succeed. Use these tips to find new ways to work out or new reasons to keep up your motivation. Remember, we only get one body; let’s treat it right.
